Sound Designer Carl Casella has his work cut out for him with a trio of one-act plays by well known authors Elaine May, Woody Allen and Ethan Coen. Using Outline Compass Line arrays for Mains in the large Brooks Atkinson Theatre and a combination of Meyer, d&b, EAW, and Sunfire for voice reinforcement and sound effects, the sound design team of ASD Josh Liebert and A1 Wally Flores merge footlight microphones, area microphones and wireless body microphones on a Yamaha DM1000 to spread the words and keep the audience in stitches.

CHINGLISH 10/15/2011

Just arrived from Chicago's Goodman Theatre for its Broadway Premier, Henry David Hwang's (M. Butterfly) tale about language interpretation is previewing at the Longacre Theatre. Sound Designer Darron West has specified a system of Meyer UPA-1P's, with a Yamaha DM1000 audio console, and Q-Lab 2 sound effects playback. Video Designer Shawn Duan provides running Chinese and English translations using Watchout Version Four media servers, and a pair of Christie HD18K projectors.

Television stars Kim Cattrall and Paul Gross bring Noel Coward's pithy classic to the Great White Way! Chris Cronin design's Richard Eyre's production arriving this fall fresh from sold out engagements in London and Toronto. Meyer UPA-1P's and D&B E-3's make up the FOH rig driven by Figure 53's Q-Lab 2 software and a Meyer Galileo 616. Sound Engineer Rafe Carlotto mixes on a Yamaha 02R96 console as Coward's witticism's fly!


The Tony Award winning musical is hitting the road in a new tour this fall! Directed by Stephen Daldry, with Music by Elton John, the Company travels first class using a Digico SD-7 console featuring the Theatre Software upgrade, and Meyer Sound Melodie and 600 HP mains. Sound Designer Paul Arditti complements the rig with Meyer Galileo 616 processing and a custom Sound Associates Q-Lab 2 music track and sound effects playback system. BILLY will be dancing into venues across the country thru 2012!

BABY IT'S YOU 6/14/2011

The Shirelles are alive and well at the Broadhurst Theatre in the new smash "Baby It's You". Florence Greenberg's discovery never sounded better under the superb direction of Sound Designer Carl Cassella. The 'Golden Oldies' songs are managed deftly by A1 Ty Lackey on a Digico D5 Live with a theatre full of Meyer Melodie and M2D Curvilinear Arrays with 18 Sennheiser Wireless microphones under 112 wigs.

JERUSALEM 6/14/2011

2008 Tony Award winner Mark Rylance, "Boeing, Boeing", is leading the Broadway cast in this London import. Sound designer for Autograph Ian Dickenson has re-created Stephen Warbeck's Royal Court composition in the Music Box Theatre. A1 Beth Berkley adroitly manages the live and playback audio on a Digico SD8 with a theatre surround sound system consisting of Meyer and d&b loudspeakers.

Congratulations to: Chris Shutt: Best Sound Design for a Play "War Horse", and Brian Ronan: Best Sound Design for a Musical "The Book of Morman" and all the Tony Award Winners.


Sound Designer Steve Canyon Kennedy will add another mega-musical to his already storied career. With Associate Designer Andrew Keister this first class sound system will debut at the Neil Simon Theatre in March 2011. Steve and Andrew have chosen EAW KF-695's and Meyer M'elodies for the main arrays and veteran A1 Dan Tramon will add his musical creativity to the mix of a 26 piece orchestra and forty-eight Sennheiser SK 5212 body pack transmitters on a new Digico SD7 Console.

33 VARIATIONS 1/13/2011

Jane Fonda reprises her Broadway role as a musicologist studying the mystery of Beethoven's 33 waltz variations at the Los Angeles Ahmanson Theatre. Sound Designer Andre Pleuss and Associate Nick Borisjuck recreate their Broadway sound design augmenting the Ahmanson house system with a Yamaha PM5D and 5D-EX console, QLab audio playback system, EAW surround system, and Sennheiser 5000 series RF.
