RELATIVELY SPEAKING

Sound Designer Carl Casella has his work cut out for him with a trio of one-act plays by well known authors Elaine May, Woody Allen and Ethan Coen. Using Outline Compass Line arrays for Mains in the large Brooks Atkinson Theatre and a combination of Meyer, d&b, EAW, and Sunfire for voice reinforcement and sound effects, the sound design team of ASD Josh Liebert and A1 Wally Flores merge footlight microphones, area microphones and wireless body microphones on a Yamaha DM1000 to spread the words and keep the audience in stitches.

CHINGLISH

Just arrived from Chicago's Goodman Theatre for its Broadway Premier, Henry David Hwang's (M. Butterfly) tale about language interpretation is previewing at the Longacre Theatre. Sound Designer Darron West has specified a system of Meyer UPA-1P's, with a Yamaha DM1000 audio console, and Q-Lab 2 sound effects playback. Video Designer Shawn Duan provides running Chinese and English translations using Watchout Version Four media servers, and a pair of Christie HD18K projectors.

PRIVATE LIVES

Television stars Kim Cattrall and Paul Gross bring Noel Coward's pithy classic to the Great White Way! Chris Cronin design's Richard Eyre's production arriving this fall fresh from sold out engagements in London and Toronto. Meyer UPA-1P's and D&B E-3's make up the FOH rig driven by Figure 53's Q-Lab 2 software and a Meyer Galileo 616. Sound Engineer Rafe Carlotto mixes on a Yamaha 02R96 console as Coward's witticism's fly!

BILLY ELLIOT ON TOUR

The Tony Award winning musical is hitting the road in a new tour this fall! Directed by Stephen Daldry, with Music by Elton John, the Company travels first class using a Digico SD-7 console featuring the Theatre Software upgrade, and Meyer Sound Melodie and 600 HP mains. Sound Designer Paul Arditti complements the rig with Meyer Galileo 616 processing and a custom Sound Associates Q-Lab 2 music track and sound effects playback system. BILLY will be dancing into venues across the country thru 2012!

OTHER DESERT CITIES

New York favorite Jon Robin Baitz arrives on Broadway at long last with this Lincoln Center Theatre production. Directed by Joe Mantello, and starring Stockard Channing and Stacey Keach, Sound Designer Jill B. C. DuBoff has outfitted the Booth theatre with a Meyer UPA-1P main rig, augmented by EAW delays and surrounds. System processing is handled by XTA 448's and digital signal infrastructure is provided by Riedel's Rock-net system.

WAR HORSE

This spectacular National Theatre production at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre under the auspices of Lincoln Center Theatre, won the 2011 Tony Award for Best Play. Sound Associates provided the audio and video systems for designers Chris Shutt (sound) and Fifty Nine Productions (video). The sound system consists of an all d&b Audiotechnick system featuring arrays and point source boxes from the Q, T, and E series. Production Sound Engineer Mark Salzberg commands a new Digico SD7 console to mix the Sennheiser RF and QLab audio playback. Video playback is handled by DMX-slaved Catalyst servers driving an array of Panasonic DLP projectors.

PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT

From the land down under comes the musical comedy with a heart. PRISCELLA tells the tale of three friends and a road trip to the middle of nowhere. This critically acclaimed production is moving from the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto to the Palace Theatre on Broadway. Sound Designers Jonathan Deans and Peter Fitzgerald ordered a stop at Sound Associates' Yonkers production facility for a Palace re-fit of the Meyer Mica and M'elody curvilinear line arrays. Kudos to A1 Steve Henshaw for an outstanding job in Toronto mixing on the new Midas XL8.
